“Gem of a Marina” Part of an Active Piper’s Lifestyle

Palm City, Fla. - Linda Sander, boating enthusiast and resident of Piper’s Landing, is the new Commodore at Piper’s Landing Yacht and County Club. She is the first woman in the club’s history to hold the position, and she’s brimming with energy and ideas to enhance the boating experience for all residents.

“Piper’s has an extraordinary deep-water yacht basin,” Sander says. “We’re located on the South Fork of the St. Lucie River – convenient to all of Martin County’s waterways, the Intracoastal, the St. Lucie inlet and the Atlantic Ocean, as well as direct passage to Florida’s Gulf Coast via Lake Okeechobee.  Our marina is a natural ‘hurricane hole’ - ideally protected from hazardous weather and one of the most accessible marinas on Florida’s entire east coast.”

Sander got into boating when her children were young, about 20 years ago. “Boating was a perfect family activity,” she says, “perfect for a family day at the sand bar, a nice cruise to a local restaurant on the water for lunch, an offshore fishing day and even trips to the Bahamas.”  With her children now grown, Sander and her husband have “right-sized” their boat to a 32-foot Edgewater center console. “We love the Florida sunshine and being on the water,” she says, “We enjoy meeting other boaters with similar interests, catching up with old friends, and making new ones along the way.  We found much of that at Pipers Yacht Club.”

Piper’s Landing yacht basin underwent a $1 million reconstruction in 2007 and now consists of 49 slips that can accommodate boats from 25 to 85 feet.  “It’s a hidden gem,” Sander says.  Her plans are to make it better known by including more of the residents in boating activities. “We play golf together, we play tennis together, and we dine together,” Sander says. “Why not boat together? We’re developing plans to include residents who don’t have their own boats in our boating events.”

There’s always something to do at Piper’s Landing. It’s known for its active lifestyle. Under Commodore Sander, this reputation will only be enhanced. “People were so welcoming when my husband and I moved here,” Sander says. “I’m eager to extend that same spirit of friendship throughout our marina and yachting program.”
