Celebrate World Oceans Day at New England Fish Market & Restaurant, help Florida Oceanographic Society

Posted on May 31, 2018

On June 8, World Oceans Day, the Treasure Coast will have a chance to celebrate our oceans while enjoying fine seafood.

New England Fish Market & Restaurant, long-standing supporter and partner of the Florida Oceanographic Society, invites the community to dine during this global celebration.

On June 8, the restaurant and market will donate 10 percent of all revenue from its Jensen Beach and Palm City locations to the nonprofit organization.

“Bring your family and friends,” said Bob Thesz, restaurant manager at New England, “enjoy a meal, and know you are helping a local nonprofit whose mission is to preserve the coastal ecosystems that make Martin County such a special place to live and play.”

New England Fish Market & Restaurant has been supporting the Florida Oceanographic Society since 2005 as a part of its business partner program. It has also participated in the Society’s FLOOR (Florida Oceanographic Oyster Restoration) Program since 2010.

Through the FLOOR Program, oyster shells are collected, dried out, bagged, and deployed into the Indian River Lagoon to establish new reefs and restore important oyster habitats in local waters.

A single adult oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day, which makes them critical to cleaning the water while providing habitat for other species.

This program provides the basis for oyster growth and restoration, while saving tons of shell from local landfills.
