MARTIN COUNTY - Martin County Commissioners signed a proclamation declaring May 2 as Keep Martin Beautiful's great American cleanup, extreme Martin makeover day.
The board also commended the volunteers and board of directors of Keep Martin Beautiful, who take on the challenge of removing litter and marine debris and beautifying and revitalizing communities throughout the county.
The cleanup is the nation's largest annual community improvement program. It is conducted nationally by Keep America Beautiful and its affiliates from March through May.
The county will benefit from an extra facelift during this year's event.
In addition to the cleanup, events occurring on May 2, Keep Martin Beautiful is also spearheading specific revitalization and beautification projects on the Gertrude Walden Child Care Center in East Stuart, the Rio/Jensen Beach Skate Park, the Palm City Boys & Girls Clubs and a historic home in Golden Gate that is in a severe state of disrepair.
